Dear Matt,

BNSF Railway and the FRA continue to place increased importance on training to provide employees the knowledge, proficiency and confidence to do their job safely each day. As a follow-up to the General Chairman Safety Meeting, this letter is to advise you of upcoming changes to the BNSF Railway Training and Certification requirements.

Each year employees are enrolled in either Year A or Year B training with a scheduled due date. This due date is communicated to the employees through their tie up screens. However, as there are an overwhelming number of employees who do not complete training each year, BNSF will begin holding employees accountable to complete training on their scheduled date in the crew system.

As we move forward, those employees with past due 2013 training prior to June I will be rescheduled. After June I, if training is not completed by the assigned due date, the employee will be held from service until training has been completed.

This change will ensure all employees are up-to-date on rules knowledge. It will also ensure all employees complete their assigned training to meet refresher training requirements.
